Monuments and Memorials

Leaving our mark

The Rifle Project has gone beyond a book. Our returns to Europe leave a lasting impression through permanent memorials. On March 24th, 2022, on the 77th Anniversary of Operation Varsity, Andrew Biggio and the 17th Airborne Association constructed the first monument to the division's jump into Germany. The monument is located at Hotel Haus Duden, in Wesel, Germany. It serves as a reminder of the brave paratroopers who liberated Germany during the "forgotten jump". Four veterans of the 17th Airborne Division were present for its unveiling. Rich Weaver, Sid Leavit, Robert White, and Roger Harris  got to see their division's monument in person before it was too late.
